About us
We are a family-run business, based in South Wales, consisting of James and Anna Williams (husband and wife).
For the best part of the last decade, James has spent his professional career in project management, organising schedules, co-ordinating stakeholders, problem-solving, communicating with people and wearing all the other hats that come with the role. Outside of work, you’ll usually find him outdoors - fishing, walking the Welsh coast, or working on his allotment. Gardening and being close to nature have always been a big part of his life, along with a love for noticing the small details and capturing them creatively, whether through photography, painting or simply enjoying the moment. He says if he's wet and dirty, he's happy, which he puts down to his coal mining ancestry.
In recent years, he's finally realised at the ripe old age of 40, "Eureka, I know what I want to be when I grow up!" After years of being the go-to friend for gardening advice (whether people wanted it or not), he set up Sycamore Gardens, pulling his professional experience and lifelong passion together into one venture. From digging worms and picking tomatoes in his grandad's garden to designing gardens for others to enjoy, it feels like a journey that's come full circle.
Alongside James is his wife, Anna, whose creativity and eye for design bring a natural balance to their work. Anna has always loved pulling spaces together, something that’s grown over the years through both her career and their family homes. Starting with a background in fashion and textiles, she developed a strong understanding of colour, texture and balance, which she’s carried through into everything she does.
She's spent 20 years in visual merchandising, starting in Marks and Spencer before working as a Visual Merchandising Manager at an award-winning garden centre. This is where she honed her understanding of space, flow and how to create environments that feel welcoming and inspiring. She also helped run a family wedding hire business, where her attention to detail and ability to bring everything together really came into its own—creating spaces that felt thoughtful, personal and memorable.
Together, James and Anna make a great team. They bounce ideas off each other, shape each project side by side, and combine creativity with practicality to design gardens that feel like a true extension of the home.
At the heart of it all, they’re a family. Having spent years working on their own homes and gardens, they understand how important these spaces are—not just how they look, but how they’re lived in. For them, it’s about creating gardens where people can relax, spend time together, and make lasting memories.
